Our 5 Top Tips for Nailing Street Style Photography whilst travelling

As keen photographers, we’re always on the lookout for those perfect street-style shots and India was the creme de la creme of street photography. It was a pure visual feast to walk the vibrant bazaars of Jaipur or to sit and admire the locals washing in Lake Udaipur, there was inspiration everywhere and we lapped it up.

1. Always have your camera to hand

Silly but true! Wear it around your neck and not tucked away in your bag, so you’re always ready to snap that epic scene.

2. Look for colours

Keep colours in mind and try and hunt out shades that are in-keeping with your aesthetic and Instagram theme, this is just super helpful if you’re trying to create an obvious style with your content.

3. Ask permission if possible

If you see a craftsman at work or someone in an amazing outfit walking down the street and it’s just too impossible to capture it without being intrusive then just ask. Ask them if it’s OK to take their image; explain you’re a photographer and say you admire their work / style or look. Sometimes you might required to present a permission form but these would be on a case by case basis.

4. Use a 35mm lens if you can

It captures enough of the background whilst keeping the subject in the foreground in complete focus and in a realistic view.

5. Think of the light

We all know that early mornings are best for shooting, however, don’t always let that put you off. It might be the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest but think of cool shadows and light rays to enhance your shot. Lightroom will be your best friend when it comes to editing these captures!
